Beach Lodge Guest House Southbourne, Bournemouth
Beach Lodge Guest House is located in a tree lined avenue running towards the cliff top of Southboune, Bournemouth and has eight guest rooms. The house is around one hundred years old and whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features that might make access difficult for people with limited mobility. Our guest rooms are located over two floors accessed only via stairs. Two of the rooms on the first floor have en-suite bathrooms at a different level, there are therefore steps down to the bathroom. On the second floor the ceilings are low in some rooms due to the eaves. As all our guest rooms are all on our first and second floors they therefore are not suitable for wheelchair users.
We are located in a quiet tree lined avenue just 5 minutes walk from Southbourne’s Blue Flag Beach . Access to the beach is via a zigzag cliff path and cliff lift. Our location is peaceful and we are ideally positioned for those wishing to use the beach and explore the area.
The nearest shops, pubs and cafés are within easy walking distance at the top of Grand Avenue , in Southbourne Grove, approximately 500 yards away.
The nearest bus stops are at Southbourne Grove. From here buses run regularly to Bournemouth, Christchurch , Poole and the surrounding area, we also have copies of the local timetables for guest use.
The nearest railway station is Pokesdown, approximately 1 mile from Beach Lodge. Bournemouth Central Station is approximately 3 miles away. Taxis are usually available at the station but we can book one for you in advance if required.
There are several local taxi companies; we can make bookings in advance for you.
We do not take pets.
Brochures and menus can be provided in large print if required. We regret we do not have facilities to prepare documents in Braille.

Arrival and Car Parking
We are a small family run Guest House and do not have a 24 hour reception service, for that reason our arrival times are from 1pm to 6pm. Earlier arrival may, however, be possible by arrangement. On day of departure rooms must be vacated by 10.30am.
There is off road parking for 4 cars on a level drive in front of the main house, please park facing the house. In addition there is unrestricted parking in the avenue.

There is one step of 3 inches up to the front door.
The front door is always closed therefore please ring the bell on your arrival.
Guest Accommodation – Public Areas
There is a step of 3 inches into the hallway with original “MINTON” tiling on the floor, which leads to the main stairs to first and second floors. Leading off the hallway is the guest dining room.
There are 17 stairs to the first floor, with a hand rail on one side. A further 17 stairs lead to the second floor, again with a hand rail on one side. All the stairs are carpeted.
There is a downstairs toilet at the end of the hall that is available to guests.
We have four guest bedrooms which are both on the first floor and four further guest bedrooms on the second floor. (Please see section “Bedrooms” for more information).
The house is centrally heated throughout but temperatures can be adjusted in each room to suit individual requirements via thermostatic radiators.
Guest Dining Room
Guests are welcome to use the dining room at any time. We have a selection of books, magazines and board games available for guests to use.
A selection of local information, maps, magazines and books are available in the hallway and first floor landing.
Breakfast is served in the dining room between 8am and 9am each morning, with all food being cooked fresh. We have a selection of fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts as well as fruit juices and a choice of teas and coffee.
The dining room features solid oak tables and chairs.
All bedrooms are carpeted throughout, have been tastefully decorated and furnished and have deluxe en-suite bathroom facilities.
On the 1 st floor we have a mixture of 2 twin/super kingsize double rooms, a deluxe king size double room and a large family room, the beds in this room can be arranged to suit parents of up to 2 children. All the rooms are bright and airy with large windows that overlook either the garden or the avenue. The en-suite bathrooms have large spacious showers with two of the bathrooms being split-level, with two steps down of 6 inches. On the 2nd floor we have 3 double rooms with plenty of character provided by the eaves and sloping ceilings. One of the bathrooms has an en-suite shower and the remaining two have en-suite baths. Also on this floor we also have a compact single room that has its own private shower room.
All rooms have a colour television, tea and coffee making facilities, towels, and complementary toiletries and a hair dryer.
Our beds are normally made with synthetic duvets and pillows, with spare blankets and bedspreads for use during winter.
There is a wardrobe with drawers and bedside cabinets in each room; all rooms have mirrors and bedside lights.
Some of our bedrooms are not large enough to accommodate additional seating but where possible chairs are provided.
There is a guest information folder in each bedroom which contains variety of further information. Additional details on the Lodge, the area and suggestions on where to eat are some of the issues covered. There are details on emergency contacts including the local hospitals and doctors.
The garden is not available to guests.
There is secure storage in the garden that guests may use to store surfboards, wetsuits, bicycles, and outdoor walking boots and clothing. There is a small charge of the use of this facility.
- There is a fire extinguisher in the entrance hall and one the first and second floor landings.
- In the event of a fire you will hear the fire alarm. In case of impaired hearing please hang the red sign found on the back of the bedroom door on the door handle.
- Exit the building following the fire exit signs (via the main staircase and hallway) to the parking area in front of the building.
- We do not permit smoking in the house. Should you wish to smoke please do so in outside the building at the front of the Lodge.
- We are happy to cater for special diets. Please advise us of these before your arrival.
- A small fridge is available for mothers with young children and people who require medication to be kept cold.
- Mobile phone reception is limited on the ground floor but is better on the first and second floors and outside the building.
